AWF NewsLetter - April 2010
PRAISE THE LORD! Last Sunday we remembered Palm Sunday and our Lord Jesus Christ's entry into Jerusalem. This week we will have a candle lite prayer on Friday for our Lord who was crucified and died for our sins. We will also have a full service on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. Sunday of course is Resurrection Day! Do you know why some Christians celebrate Easter but not Holy Week or Passover? In point of fact, Easter appears once in the King James Version of the Bible, in Acts 12:4, where it is a mistranslation. Reputable scholars and reference works point out that the word Easter in this verse comes from the Greek word pascha, meaning Passover. The Easter we know now is actually a pagan celebration having its roots in several ancient people including the Babylonians and Assyrians. Their fertility goddess was Ishtar, from which derives the names Astarte and Ashtoreth and very likely the Anglo-Saxon Eostre or Germanic Ostara, goddess of spring, the origin of the word Easter (this also giving us the word east, the direction of the sunrise). There's much more history on the pagan holiday of Easter but to get into that now would not be edifying to God especially now during Passover. Passover is to some Christians a Holy time as it is for most devout Jews. But, to many Christians it is not observed nor understood. By all rights it should be deeply considered and studied by those brothers and sisters who have long ignored it. If you do not understand it take a look at the following link which will give you a much deeper history and tell you why we should all honor and celebrate Passover: Celebrate The Feast Of Passover The above article by Robert Somerville, explains a lot about this Holy time and by all rights you need to study the Scriptures if you hope to understand what God wants of you and what He does not. Never simply take my word or anyone elses when you want to know more about God and the role He wants you to take. Prayer is essentual but study in the Word is just as necessary. A minister of the Word can help you to get through some of the more indepth Scripture but only through intimate prayer and personal study of His Word will you know God's Will for your life.

PANIC ATTACK! I came across this article on panic attacks in "Christianity Today" called Panic Attack! by Cindy Baum posted 5/10/2007, a few years ago and shared it with some of you back then. The link is now on Kyria.com. I thought I would share it again so that all those who have joined us since would have a chance to read it. What some of you may not know or remember is why we started AWF in the first place. God gave me a vision back in 2003 to minister to shut-ins, people who often do not have a way to fellowship with other brothers and sisters in Christ or who may not know the Lord at all. Here is a link to a very good article by a Christian author on panic attacks:
SONS OF GOD short sermon by PastorBob John 8:31-36 “To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." “They answered him, "We are Abraham's descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?" “Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.“ So are you son or a slave? I am not a slave, least not in the sense we think of now days. Rather I am a son of God, a free man who chooses to follow my Lord Jesus. There is a bond and I am a servant and that bond is a covenant between me and my God but I am His servant because I freely choose to be. He would have it no other way. It has to be my choice, it has to be your choice. Romans 8:14 NASB “For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” Sisters, please count yourselves in this scripture. You are equal to men and you are loved by God every bit as much. ~PastorBob
